Mark 1
I started the Gospel of Mark this morning. Chapter 1:whew there is a lot to unpack in 45 verses.
John the Baptist was able to prepare the way of the lord by preaching and gaining the trust of so many people that all of Judea and Jerusalem came to him to be baptized in the Jordan River.
John continues to preach that someone mightier than himself is coming (The Son) and while baptize You with something much more powerful than symbolic water (Holy Spirit).
Jesus came to be baptized by John and as he reemerged from the water he saw the Heavens open and the Holy Spirit descended upon him. The voice of God "You are my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased".
The Holy Spirit then leads Jesus into the wilderness and for 40 days he is tempted by Satan while angels minister to him.
We also learn tha John the Baptis is imprisoned although here no reason is given.
Jesus makes his way to Galilee preaching the Gospel. Here he finds fishermen, Simon and Andrew, James and John. He tells them to follow him, and without hesitation the four leave everything to follow Jesus.
Jesus and the four men continue to travel around the region of Galilee where Jesus preaches, teaches, heals, and casts out demons.
The stories of his works spread quickly and people flocked to him- even when he was in remote, deserted places.
