Best Soccer Gear for Boys Under 5
Hi, Mama’s!
Last week I shared about my favorite soccer league for littles in Wichita, KS.
This week, I want to share with you my favorite gear!
As a reminder, I am an affiliate, and recieve some monetary compensation for any item purchased through my links. However, I have only linked items that we have personally used and have high overall review scores.
Bag
We like this bag because it’s lightweight, adjustable, and easy for our four-year old to carry. It secures using drawstrings, Velcro, and buckles – all of which requires no tying – and is easy to handle for our little guy! The bag has a ball pouch on the front, which allows him to carry his favorite ball with him to every game/practice. There is room in his bag for a jacket/hoodie when he plays those morning games in the Kansas spring time…its 45 degrees at 9am and 70 degrees by 11am, so you need layers! He also carries his beloved soccer water bottle in his bag.

Ball
Franklin soccer balls have been around for years. They are timeless, durable, and have yet to let us down! We chose a size 4 ball, simply because that is what his league uses; however, Franklin offers all sizes of youth soccer balls. The link provided above covers sizes 3-5. Additionally, what good would a soccer ball be if it wasn’t a fun color? While the link provided is the standard black/white option; you can find colorful options almost anywhere on the web and in stores. We happen to own a red one 😊
Shoes/Cleats
With over 1100 4-star reviews, we invested in Hawkwell soccer cleats for both boys. Our oldest played two seasons in cleats, and our youngest is on season 4 (two years time) in his. They are worth the money – hands down! Neither pair has shown ANY sign of wear of tear. They have not caused our boys blisters or pain -BONUS- and they fit my youngest’s wide feet! We often struggle finding tennis shoes he is willing to wear, and usually fork out the money for Merrell Wide shoes for kids; however, he has not complained once about his soccer shoes – DOUBLE BONUS! They, again, come in all sorts of fun colors and as you can see, we selected the navy/neon orange variety 😊 which coincidently goes great with his orange-team theme (he has been team orange 3/5 seasons).

Shin Guards
An affordable two-for-one deal right here! You get a pair of soccer socks, with removable shin guards for under $15. Woah! Not to mention, for kids who don’t like the tight fitting shin guards that Velcro around their calves (who can blame them!!?) these are a great alternative as they feel just like socks! The removeable guards make the socks easy to wash, and despite my initial hesitations, they are not difficult to remove or insert. Can I get an Amen!? This is our first season using these, so we only have 3 weeks of “use” - but so far no complaints – and the rating of 4.5 stars with over 4000 reviews speaks for itself!
